Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said Friday that he would like to see a conclusion of Australia's free trade agreement negotiations with China.
Rudd made the remarks when answering questions raised by Xinhua at his first press conference after being sworn in as Australia's 28th prime minister on Thursday.
"I think the relationship with China is in very good working order. Everyone knows that we have massive economic interests which we have in common," he said.
"What I'd really like to see and this has been a tough, tough process and I would say to our friends in Beijing, let us conclude the free trade agreement between China and Australia... It really needs to be brought to conclusion."
Rudd reassured the Chinese side, saying China needs not to worry about the impact of the Australian agricultural industry on its domestic market given the limited size of Australia's agricultural output.
"If Australia exported all of its agricultural outputs to China it may cater for the extra food demands of Guangdong province, maybe, on a good day."
"I think in terms of Chinese consumers' demands, for an increasing range of food products, and of our appropriate environmental accreditation, that there is a huge opportunity for us as Australians to do much better in the Chinese agricultural market."

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Friday that overseas attacks on Chinese computers have harmed both the country's economic development and the lives of ordinary citizens.
More than 14.2 million computers were overseas-controlled last year, she said, adding that some of the computers belonged to ordinary Internet users, while others were being used by companies in the finance, transportation and energy sectors.
The Chinese government attaches great importance to cyber security and is opposed to any form of cyber attack, the spokeswoman stressed, noting that Chinese law and regulations expressly prohibit such activity.
China hopes countries that have irresponsibly accused China of conducting cyber attacks will cease to do so, Hua said, calling for pragmatic action to promote mutual trust and cooperation in order to safeguard cyberspace.

Former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama said Friday that the dispute over the Diaoyu Islands should be left to future generations to decide.
"I think we should learn from the wisdom of (former) Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai and (former) Japanese Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka who reached a verbal agreement to put the issue aside and leave it to future generations to decide," Hatoyama said at the Third Global Think Tank Summit.
Hatoyama said that countries and regions including the ASEAN, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea are the core of East Asian community, and the ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation is extremely important for a peaceful Asia.
"The East Asian community is not a closed Asia, but rather an open Asia with a flexible attitude and the participation of various countries," Hatoyama said.

Former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama said Friday that the dispute over the Diaoyu Islands should be left to future generations to decide.

Central bank to speed up opening of capital account, global use of yuan
China's will continue to implement prudent monetary policies, but will conduct preemptive adjustments and fine-tuning in an appropriate way when necessary, according to Zhou Xiaochuan, the governor of the People's Bank of China.
The head of the country's central bank said that it will work with other departments to guide financial institutions to maintain reasonable lending levels, and will use multiple tools to adjust liquidity and keep the market stable.
Speaking at the Lujiazui Forum in Shanghai on Friday, in his first public comments on the issue, Zhou said: "The PBOC will use all sorts of instruments and measures to adjust the overall liquidity level, so as to ensure the overall stability of the market."
He added the bank would ensure the "normal operation" of the economy.
There has been anxiety in the market that tightening credit conditions could spread into the broader economy, with some Chinese companies reportedly running short of cash to settle suppliers' bills.
Zhou said the central bank would guide financial institutions on maintaining reasonable credit growth while arranging their debts and maturity structures properly, to support the structural adjustment and upgrading of the real economy.
He said that the PBOC would continue actively pushing the opening up of the renminbi market, and that China plans more currency swap deals with other central banks, in the pursuit of more commercial banks starting to operate offshore yuan clearing businesses.
China will also speed up the opening of its capital account, though the process will be flexible, he added.
China's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15) calls for a gradual opening of the nation's capital account, which covers investment. The yuan is already convertible on the current account, which covers trade.
Shanghai is pushing hard to become a major financial hub, and its mayor, Yang Xiong said the city will strive to become a global renminbi center by the end of 2015.
In 2012, the country's yuan-denominated cross-border settlements totaled 500 billion yuan ($81 billion), a 50 percent year-on-year growth, added Yang.
Li Lihui, president of the Bank of China, said that simplified benchmark interest rates for deposits and lending and a more significant role for the Shanghai Interbank Offered Rate, or Shibor, in the global market will also help the currency's internationalization.
Current cross-border renminbi-denominated settlements are usually used in trade between China and neighboring countries, and Li added that it may take another 15 years for the renminbi to become one of world's major currencies.

Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao has called on countries to oppose trade protectionism and embrace innovation to cope with the ongoing global financial crisis.
Li made the remarks while addressing a global think tank summit that opened in Beijing on Friday.
All countries should seek a development model that features innovation, balance, inclusiveness and sustainability, he said.
Opening-up and cooperation are important guarantees for overcoming the crisis, Li said.
Countries should become increasingly aware that they share a common destiny and they should safeguard a stable and opening international trade and investment environment, he said.
The vice president also called on countries to find converging interests and increase common interests.
He asked countries to refrain from adopting a zero-sum mentality and, instead, foster a new concept of development that features common prosperity and progress.
China will hold high the banner of peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit, and it will work with all countries to establish a fair, reasonable, generally preferential, balanced, dynamic, stable and orderly new international economic order, he said.
The summit, which will close on Saturday, is attended by a number of dignitaries, including former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and Director-General of the World Trade Organization Pascal Lamy.

China keeps close eye on US-Philippine drills

A joint naval exercise between the US and the Philippines has entered its second day, in waters near Huangyan Island. Officials from both countries say the drills are regular and pre-arranged and have nothing to do with territorial disputes with China. China hasn't directly contradicted that stance, but it has issued a veiled warning to both nations not to compromise regional peace and stability.
The 6-day naval drill began on Thursday in Subic Bay, a former US naval base.
Some exercises are being held in waters facing Huangyan Island. But US and Philippine commanders have played down reports that the drills are a response to territorial disputes, calling them routine, and focused on regional security.
Captain Ruel Saonoy, Exercise Director, Philippine Navy, said, "It also sends a message to our neighbours that our navies share a common interest in keeping our seas and littorals open for safe commerce and the usual interactions of seafaring states."
The US meanwhile, says the drills are just another part of its overall strategic rebalance to Asia.
Rear Admiral Thomas Carney said, "It's certainly part of the rebalance that the US is looking to reinforce not only militarily but economically and politically with Asia."
But Huangyan Island IS the center of a long standing territorial dispute between China and the Philippines, and the scene of a number of recent standoffs.
Manila has recently beefed up its military presence at another disputed coral reef, prompting China to accuse the country of "illegal occupation".
But despite media reports that the current drill is weighted towards territorial issues, China's response this time has been more guarded.
Yang Yujun, spokesman of Chinese Ministry of National Defense, said, "It's China's consistent position that military cooperation between countries should not compromise regional peace and stability. As for media reports relating to the drill to current territorial disputes, we feel this is an exaggeration and media hype."
The Philippine military wants to build new air and naval bases at Subic Bay, coinciding with the US rebalancing towards Asia.
Professor Clarita Carlos, Philippine Defense Expert, said, "So I would imagine, there will be more visits by US naval personnel here and there will be more joint and combined exercises. Nothing wrong with that."
The frequency of US Navy visits has certainly increased dramatically. So far this year, 72 US warships and submarines have visited Subic Bay. In the whole of 2012 there were just 88 visits 54 in 2011 and 51 in 2010.
China continues to insist that regional peace and stability can only be reached through dialogue.
