China says the terrorist nature of the violent attack in northwestern Xinjiang last Thursday was clear. The Foreign Ministry made the remarks in response to comments from the EU ambassador to China. Markus Ederer said on Monday China needed to be more candid about the nature and causes of recent incidents in Xinjiang.
Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying says China and the EU are both victims of terrorism. She stressed the need to oppose terrorism in order to protect people's safety and safeguard national unity.
Hua also addressed reports that East Turkistan terrorist forces were involved in the incident. The militants, she says, are colluding with international terrorist organizations, endangering peace and stability not just in China, but also in neighboring countries. China will step up cooperation with relevant countries to combat terrorist organizations in the region.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi says disputes in the South China Sea should be resolved through negotiations by the parties directly concerned.
Speaking at the ASEAN Regional Forum foreign ministers meeting in Brunei on Tuesday, Wang Yi cited historical facts and evidence to show that China has indisputable sovereignty over the Huangyan Island and the Ren'ai Reef in the South China Sea, and stressed that China is fully justified in responding to provocative activities.
He noted China has an unwavering resolve to uphold its sovereignty and maritime rights and interests. The Chinese foreign minister added that China is committed to resolving the disputes through consultation and negotiation with the countries concerned, as stipulated in the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.
This commitment was jointly made by China and the ASEAN in 2002.

Urumqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is home to nearly 50 ethnic groups. It could take you days or even weeks to fully explore the local specialties. In spite of the recent violent clashes, July is the summer peak season for tourism.
The ethnic mix in Xinjiang is like its wide variety of nuts and raisins: colorful as a palette, and the taste wouldn't be complete if one selection is missing. Many of the hard-working Uygur businessmen here have lots to say about the region's rapid economic growth and stability.
"Our lives have changed so dramatically compared to 10 years ago, now people can afford to buy dresses they like and have plenty of choices for the dinner table at home", local retailer Patiguli said.
From fruit to ethnic ornaments, dresses and handicrafts, the market is a reflection of the best of what every part of Xinjiang has to offer. And to maintain such prosperity, there has to be zero tolerance for activities driven by the three evil forces, known as separatism, extremism and terrorism.
"No matter what ethnic and religious background one is from, unity is the fundamental factor for overall prosperity and stability, especially in a mix society like Xinjiang," Batier said.
Rising incomes and improved livelihoods show that Xinjiang's development is in the fast lane.
"If our business goes well, I am planning to travel to Turkey to see what is out there and maybe to import some popular goods back here," said local retailer Ayiguli.
As for the future, building the region into a major portal for China's westward opening-up is the common goal for all the ethnic groups here.
In the past few years, Xinjiang has boasted positive economic and social development. And while the recent terror attacks caused severe harm to local life and property, people say they will not let these criminal acts break the region's ethnic unity and social stability.

Wang noted that the Summit is a platform to promote East Asian cooperation and connect with other regions, like South Asia and the Pacific. The Chinese foreign minister also said the East Asia Summit should focus on development, and boosting regional integration.
Meanwhile, Wang said ASEAN's dialogue partners should support the development of an ASEAN Community. He added that as an active partner in Summit activities, China will push for the building of a China-East Asia Free Trade Area, as well as seek maritime cooperation.

China's stock index futures opened lower on Wednesday, with the contract for settlement in July, the most actively traded, down 9.6 points from the previous close to 2,150.4.
The contract for settlement in August shed 0.4 point to open at 2,155.0. The September contract decreased 5.8 points to 2,150.0, and the December contract opened 0.6 points lower to open at 2,175.6.
The stock-index contracts, agreements to buy or sell the Hushen 300 Index at a present value on an agreed date, are designed to allow investors to bet on and profit from either gains or declines in the market.
The index futures were launched at the China Financial Futures Exchange (CFFEX) and started trading from April 16, 2010. The CFFEX has set the base value for all the four contracts at 3,399 points.

Every four or six weeks, the Beijing-based rabbi Shimon Freundlich and his team buy 1,000 liters of fresh organic milk for members of the Jewish community in major cities across China.
Freundlich favors Green Yard, a small Chinese dairy brand barely known by most locals.
The "top notch" hygiene standards in Green Yard's dairy farm convinced him, he said.
Before Green Yard's first batch of kosher milk, Freundlich, who supervised production, invited a European dairy expert to examine the machinery and procedures at the Green Yard plant. The conclusion the expert reached was that the plant takes more extensive hygienic measures in its production process than some European dairy plants.
"They take their work very seriously. They're not trying to get away with the minimum standards but rather the maximum," Freundlich said.
The rabbi's trust in the brand reflects the growing popularity of Green Yard among expats in Beijing. So it's ironic that many Chinese don't like their products only because Green Yard is a domestic brand, said Hou Xuejun, general manager at Beijing Green Yard Ecological Agricultural Development Co Ltd.
Located in Yanqing county, Beijing, the Green Yard dairy farm is believed to be the first in the country to use certified organic fodder and organic raw material, as well as having certified production and processing lines.
The farm is home to 700 cows, with only 200 cows available for milking. The cows are played music and are fed organic feed mixed with traditional Chinese medicine.
Because of its limited daily production capacity, which is only 3 tons, the farm can only supply dairy products to 4,000 to 5,000 households.
The company provides fresh organic milk for 3,000 households every day. The milk is mostly sold through high-end local retailers in areas with foreign communities and through shopping websites such as Yihaodian.com and JD.com.
Green Yard's products usually cost two or three times more than other non-organic fresh milk brands.
Hou said that the cost of remaining organic throughout the production process is much higher than in the United States, for example, because the availability of suitable organic land in China is very limited.
The major problems in China for organic milk brands are milk sources and manufacturing bases, said Song Liang, a dairy industry analyst at the Distribution Productivity Promotion Center of China Commerce.
Song added that the manufacturing process and the raw material sources are very important factors for companies.
"Like in wine production, the location of the manufacturing bases for organic milk is very important," Song said.
He added that the quality of the products depends a lot on the manufacturing location.
Organic dairy products still have a small market share in China, Song said, with most of them being organic formula milk and organic milk.
Hefty retail prices, difficulties in obtaining certifications and lack of awareness among local shoppers have held back the development of the country's organic dairy industry, he said.
However, despite the current lackluster demand, the market has huge growth potential, supported by the demand from affluent consumers for high-end food.
Established dairy producers such as China Mengniu Dairy Co Ltd and Yili Industrial Group are eyeing the organic sector to expand their high-end range of products.
Yao Tongshan, chairman of Inner Mongolia Shengmu Technology Ltd, said that the market for organic dairy products in the Asia-Pacific region is expected to increase about 20.2 percent annually in the coming years.
He added that his company's organic milk business is expected to reach sales of nearly 1.4 billion yuan ($226.45 million) this year, with the retail network expanding to 260 cities across the country.
