Shanghai authorities have verified and unveiled all identities of the 36 victims killed in the Bund new year eve stampede, the government's press office said on Saturday.
According to the victim list, 34 were residents of the Chinese mainland, 1 was from Taiwan and one was a Malaysian citizen.
The youngest victim was 12 years old and the oldest was 37 years old.
Students of Fudan University, East China Normal University and East China University of Political Science and Law were among those killed, according to sources.
The stampede happened on Wednesday night as tens of thousands people assembled in Shanghai's historic riverfront walk to see a new year skyline show in the Pudong financial area on the opposite side of the Huangpu River.
Police are investigating the cause of the stampede and the municipal government has set up a work team for rescue operations.
The municipal government has been caught in the backwash of criticism for not making effective preparation measures to cope with the crowds that flocked to the Bund.

Lowering financing costs remains a policy priority for China in 2015 given the likely limited effects on lending rates from the benchmark interest rate cut on Nov. 21, said Chang Jian, Barclays Chief China Economist.
Fundamentally, reduced capital inflows result in tighter system liquidity and rising bank funding costs, reducing banks' incentives to pass on the lending rate cut, Chang said in a note on Friday.
In the near term, the government is not likely to send too strong an easing signal, such as a required reserve ratio (RRR) cut, in view of the strong rally recently seen in the stock market, she said.
Chang expects a more paced monetary easing cycle and risks of a delay in the RRR cuts and interest rate cuts in 2015, believing that RRR cuts look unavoidable if lowering lending rates is a policy priority.
The Chinese central bank cut the benchmark interest rate for one-year deposits by 25 basis points and the one-year lending rate by 40 basis points on Nov. 21, 2014.
This was the first adjustment to the benchmark rates since July 2012 and has boosted stock markets in Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Still challenges in anti-smoking fight

China's anti-smoking campaign saw significant progress in 2014, thanks to legislation at both the national and local levels.
During a recent health forum in Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province, experts agreed that the country's growing emphasis on the rule of law had advanced tobacco control legislation. However, obstacles to its implementation remained.
Last January, a circular required officials to take the lead by not smoking in public.
In November, the Beijing municipal legislature passed an anti-smoking bill to ban smoking in all indoor public places, workplaces as well as on public transport. It is due to take effect in June.
Also in November, the State Council's legislative affairs office released a draft regulation for public comment which would ban smoking in indoor public places and outdoor spaces, including schools and hospitals; all forms of tobacco advertising; sponsorship and promotion of tobacco products; and smoking scenes involving minors in films and on TV.
Li Xiaoliang, director of the Pioneers for Health Consultancy Center in Yunnan, said that since the country ratified the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in 2005, the Chinese government and grassroots organizations had go together to promote the anti-smoking cause.
However, tobacco control legislation still lacks solid public support, since a large number of the country's smokers and passive smokers are not fully aware of the damage tobacco causes to health and social development, Li said.
As the world's largest tobacco maker and consumer, China has more than 300 million smokers and another 740 million people exposed to second-hand smoke.
Many law enforcers themselves are not fully aware of the harm of smoking, making strict enforcement of the law difficult at times, said Shen Shouwen, professor at Yunnan University in Kunming.

A new reform plan for the payment packages of top executives at China's large state-owned enterprises has come into effect.
Executives of 72 SOEs will see their salary packages shrink this year, including China's largest oil and gas producer CNPC, Sinopec, and communications firm China Mobile.
The salary reform will also affect executive paychecks and corporate expenses of state-held enterprises.
New regulations have also formed a revised salary structure composed of basic wage, performance-related payment and incentive income.
Under the new rules, the total annual salary of SOE executives should not be more than seven to eight times of the average staff wage.
Meanwhile, SOE executives are required to disclose their salaries.
The salary reform is part of a broader reform plan in the SOE sector, which have centered on bringing in private capital to foster modern governance systems and develop a mixed-ownership economy.
