A People's Liberation Army Navy fleet has marked the Lunar New Year, while conducting patrol and training missions in the West Pacific.

A flag-raising ceremony was held Sunday morning, by the crews of the North China Sea Fleet's three missile destroyers. Shortly after the ceremony, the Chinese navy continued its extensive training missions in the region. The fleet entered the West Pacific on Thursday night through the Bashi Channel, located between Taiwan and the Philippines' Luzon Island.

During a patrol of the Nansha Islands and their adjacent waters, the fleet maintained a high level of combat readiness. They held drills aimed at expelling ships infringing on China's territorial waters, and carried out an anti-piracy exercise.
