China ranks 34th in the overall global financial performance as a destination for expats, according to the Expat Explorer 2016 report by The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) on Friday.
Thirty-four percent of expats in China say they have better job opportunities, while globally, the average index is 25 percent. Fifty-four percent say their working experience in China had positive career effects.
The report goes on to say that 66 percent receive a housing allowance and 60 percent a flight allowance. Both allowances are around two times more than the global average index. Also 38 percent of expats receive a relocation allowance compared with the 22 percent globally.
Two thirds of the expats interviewed believed their income rose and their daily expenses dropped after moving to China. Twenty-two percent have a yearly income of 200 thousand US dollars (around 1.3 million RMB), which sits at 11% of the global average index. In addition, 45 percent of expats working in China believe that their savings will rise after retirement.
The top three destinations for expats globally are Singapore, New Zealand and Canada.
