Wu Haijun, the expressway police chief in Huai'an, Jiangsu province, walked over 40,000 steps Wednesday while on duty. He then became famous among his Wechat friends, reported Yangtse.com.
Wu walked over 40,000 steps and "took over" Wechat sport
Wu saw his Wechat sport informing him he had walked 43,891 steps while on duty. He was surprised as he usually only walks between 10-20,000 steps.
Wu said that on Wednesday there was heavy fog between 1am and 8 pm. The Huai'an section of the expressway was closed and would not open until the fog lessened.
"This is the busiest time for us traffic police," said Wu Haijun. He had to distribute the traffic at junctions and explain the problems to the drivers.
When the emergency lanes were unavailable, Wu carries patients to the expressway exit
When walking along the expressway in the morning, he would have to change his clothes constantly because of the weather.
At 8am on Wednesday, the fog lessened and Wu, with his colleagues, directed the traffic. In case of accidents, he had to walk to evacuate the vehicles.
"I drank 12 bottles of water but only needed to the bathroom once. The water has turned to perspiration," said Wu.
One passenger was unwell but the emergency lane was occupied by private cars, Wu had to carry the patient to the expressway exit.
The emergency lane was illegally occupied more than 170 times on Wednesday.
"We are the example. Actions speak louder"
Wu and his colleagues often say they are the example and they act more and talk less. When he was told he walked more than 30 kilometers, he laughed and replied that no wonder his wife jokes about his snoring.
