Pupils injured in knife attack to be compensated

The 23 school children injured in a knife attack in central China's Henan Province last week are set to recieve compensation.


The compensation will be paid jointly by several Chinese insurance companies and the local Education Bureau.


Wen Chuailai is from the Peoples Insurance Company of China.


"Accidental injuries which occurred on campus are included in the school-responsibility insurance, and we will pay the hospital fees of the injured students, including fees for diagnoses, treatments and hospitalization. We will compensate every cent spent at the hospital, as long as each total claim is less than 300,000 yuan, or about 48,000 US dollars."


Preparation work for the settlement of the claims is currently underway.


The children and an elderly woman were wounded by a knife wielding attacker in Guangshan County last Friday.


None of the victims are in critical condition.
