The 10th reading habit survey of the Chinese people was released on Thursday by the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication (CAPP) which found more than 70 percent still prefer paper books, the Beijing Daily reported.
For Chinese people aged between 18 and 70, the survey found that 74.4 percent prefer "real" books, and only 13.2 percent prefer reading online. Nine percent like reading via smartphones, 2.2 percent use electronic readers, and 1.3 percent download materials and print them.
Xu Shengguo, the director of CAPP, said it's better to read paper books than e-books.
"Scientifically speaking, reading paper books can make people concentrate more so they can memorize more clearly," said Xu.
