A new report revealed that nearly 80 percent of young Chinese were pushed into marriage by their parents.
Released by the China Youth Concern Committee Health and Physical Culture Development Center, the report polled 1,000 people in every provincial region under the age of 40.
The vast majority of those between 25 and 35 - 86 percent - said they were pushed to get married by their parents despite their reluctance.
Three percent of respondents under the legal marriage age (22 for males and 20 for females) claimed they were pushed to wed, red the report.
With the Spring Festival fast approaching, single Chinese generally face mounting pressure from relatives during family reunions to get married.
However, some polled said they would resort to deception as a way to escape such situations.
Some 36 percent of young males from Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, said they would hire someone to pose as a "fake girlfriend" or "lie to their families" about their relationship status.
