Beginning on Monday, the week-long event called "Guangdong Food Festival" is celebrating the unique cuisine that hails from Guangdong Province.
The gourmet Guangdong cuisine consists of a broad range of dishes but is best known for its dim sum, traditionally served in steamer baskets containing 4 to 5 pieces light bites such as dumplings, steamed buns and sesame seed balls.
The event saw some of San Francisco's top techies tasting a broad variety of Guangdong food.
Typical Guangdong food boasts a global appeal thanks to the variety of fresh ingredients it incorporates, with chefs focusing on their natural flavors without resorting to excessive use of herbs and spices to produce a mouth-watering taste.
The region is famous for its sweet and sour dishes, but traditional foods include so much more; including goose, Chinese sausage and vegetables served in oyster sauce.
During Guangdong food week, three lucky individuals were sent on an once-in-a-lifetime trip to China after winning a competition. The guests will be served dishes prepared by one of the top chefs in the country.
