Beijing (CNS) -- People who finish graduate school are faced with employment difficulties as nearly 7 million students will graduate from college this year, the highest since the People's Republic of China was founded in 1949.


Statistics released in Beijing show that only about 36 percent of job seekers with master's degrees signed contracts with employers in April.


Facing fierce competition in the job market, a considerable number of graduates are choosing to pursue academics, either at home or abroad.


Several years ago, a master's degree was the magic key for many Chinese graduates to a high-paying job, but nowadays, that is no longer the case.


Those who graduate with master's degrees may still face the same challenges as less-educated job seekers due to increased competition.


The rapid expansion of college admissions has contributed to the grim job prospects for graduates in China, according to Xiong Bingqi, deputy director of the 21st Century Education Research Institute.


Graduate school enrollment reached 539,000 this year, an increase of 21,000 from 2012.
