The Western influence brought an odd mixture of architectural styles to Shanghai's apartment buildings, but art deco was the most common.

Hengshan Road is one of the areas in Shanghai studded with art deco buildings and Georgia Apartments building is a good example.

It was designed by Fan Wenzhao, one of the most famous architects in contemporary China, and constructed in 1942. He later adapted his style to further reflect art deco styles. The layout of Georgia Apartments is in the shape of a T, with the four-floor wings and seven-floor central section. It is simple and tasteful, which was popular in the 1930s and 1940s.
