(ECNS) -- A news report saying that the total number of days in China's public holidays ranks 33rd in the world has drawn fire from netizens, according to the Beijing Youth Daily.

There are 62 countries with an average of 11.7 holidays, and China ranks 33rd with 11 days, same as France and Italy, according to the report. The number also means China is ahead of Australia, the United States, Germany, Canada, and Britain in public holidays, it said.

The statistics were from a Mercer Human Resource Consulting report in 2011.

However, the report also shows that China ranks third from the bottom in terms of minimum paid leave, as people with 10 years of service in 62 countries and regions worldwide are eligible for 19 days of paid leave on average, while China has only 10 days.

The United States has 15 days of paid leave, and Britain has 28 days.

"Can't we be so self-deceiving?" said some netizens.

"Many workers in the service industry and many migrant workers have no weekends at all, let alone paid leave," some said.
