Top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un canceled his planned visit to Moscow for the Victory Day celebration on May 9, the Kremlin said Thursday.

"We were informed of the decision via diplomatic channels ... The leader cited interior affairs in his country as the reason for his absence," the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

The spokesman denied allegations that the decision of the DPRK leader came after Moscow probably received warnings from some other countries against the presence of Kim in Moscow.

"That is certainly not the case," Peskov said.

China on Thursday opposed a new Pentagon cybersecurity strategy, saying it makes groundless accusations against Beijing and will increase the online arms race.

"We are following the new US cybersecurity strategy and concerned about it...The report makes groundless accusations about China, and we resolutely oppose it," Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Geng Yansheng said at a monthly press briefing on Thursday.

The 33-page cybersecurity strategy, the second released by the Pentagon following a first strategy in 2011, says the Defense Department "should be able to use cyber operations to disrupt an adversary's command and control networks, military-related critical infrastructure and weapons capabilities."

The strategy lists China, Russia, Iran and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as potential targets. It also includes a section on US concerns about Chinese cyberespionage against US companies and agencies.

"With its great edge in cyber technology and the strongest and largest cyberforce in the world, the U.S. declaration of offensive cyber strategy will not help manage or settle differences in cyberspace, but will strain conflicts and increase the arms race," Geng said.

China has been the victim of cyber attacks and has opposed hacking in any form, Geng said, urging the United States to abandon its double standards and stop disparaging other countries.

Stressing that China proposes a peaceful, safe, open and cooperative cyberspace, Geng said China opposes cyberwarfare and an online arms race. "We oppose turning cyberspace into a new battlefield," said Geng.

The United States should do more to promote common security in cyberspace rather than seek its own security using its military strength, Geng said.

China's massive Internet infrastructure is extremely vulnerable to overseas cyberattacks, experts warned on Thursday after a server malfunction redirected a large number of requests to wrong pages for days.

The country has seen an increasing number of attacks targeting key Internet infrastructure, government bodies and influential industrial organizations, according to a report.

This was released on Thursday by the National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team Coordination Center, a nongovernmental agency that monitors China's Internet safety.

"Although protection methods have improved generally, the risk level for basic Internet infrastructure remains high," the report said.

Last year, the center detected more than 1,500 major security flaws from telecom carriers, triple the amount found a year previously.

Four days before the agency issued its warning, Internet users on the Chinese mainland were finding it difficult to access a large number of websites that allow visitors to log in using Facebook accounts.

Page view requests to these sites were hijacked and redirected to two addresses-wpkg.org, the home page of an open source software, and ptraveler.com, a travel blog.

The incident affected a long list of sites, including cnn.com, yahoo.com.jp and the site of Emirates airline.

A senior staff member overseeing Internet operations at the coordination center said: "It was a rather strange case because the hackers were directly targeting the telecom carriers' servers. It has rarely happened before.

"China Telecom was the biggest victim because it is the largest Internet service provider. ... It is impossible to estimate the damage at the moment."

Access to the sites affected had been restored by Thursday afternoon.

In a statement, the center said the redirection was caused because some of the servers in China were "contaminated" by malware from overseas servers.

Experts said it will be difficult to trace the source of the attack because it is technically possible to carry it out by remotely controlling the servers.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Shen Yi, a researcher at Fudan University, said China has been on the receiving end of foreign online hacking.

"The country lags far behind the West in building an anti-hacking system. When the worst happens, we cannot find an effective way to defend Internet safety."

Shen added that China is focusing on improving cybersafety levels, but the vulnerabilities have been easy to find.

Chinese players survive thriller to semis at table tennis worlds

Xu Xin and Zhang Jike of China survived a thrilling match against Masataka Morizono and Yuya Oshima of Japan to progress to the men's doubles semifinals of the Qoros 2015 World Table Tennis Championships at the Suzhou International Exhibition Centre on Thursday.

In the most exciting match of the round, the Japanese players took an early lead, winning the first game 11-9, but the Chinese duo got back into the match, levelling it by winning the second.

In the third it looked like Xu and Zhang began to impose their will on the match, winning it 11-7.

In the fourth game, the teams traded points until Japan took a time-out at 6-5 and with their tactical changes implemented the Morizono and Oshima team went on to win the game and even the match at 2-2.

With the match in the balance at two games all and 9-9 in the fifth, it was the Japanese players who showed battling quality as Oshima ripped two spectacular cross-table forehand winners to get his team within one game of the victory.

In the sixth game, Xu and Zhang built a two-point lead at 8-6 when the Japanese took a time-out, but Morizono/Oshima could not stop the Chinese teams from progressing as China pushed on to force a deciding game.

At 8-8 in the final game, Japan won a long rally and then in the following point Zhang put the ball into the net to give Morizono and Oshima two match points.

Incredibly, the Japanese duo could not convert either, letting Xu and Zhang off the hook and through to the next round.

In a surprisingly close match, the world No. 12 team of Lee Sangsu and Seo Hyundeok of South Korea were pushed all the way by Cazuo Matsumoto and Thiago Monteiro of Brazil.

The South Korean pair finally beat their opponnets in seven games and set up a semifinal clash against Xu/Zhang.

The other semifinal will see Japanese Kenta Matsudaira and Koki Niwa against Chinese Fan Zhendong and Zhou Yu.

Six GMS countries sign joint declaration
http://www.ecns.cn/2015/04-30/163794.shtml
Apr 30th 2015, 08:06

Ministerial representatives from the six Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) countries of Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam on Thursday signed a joint declaration, reiterating their joint commitment to ending all forms of human trafficking in the region.

The joint declaration was signed as part of the 4th Inter- Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinated Mekong Ministerial Initiative against Trafficking (COMMIT). "The joint declaration aims to achieve the goal of eradicating any situation where human beings are traded, bought, sold, abducted, forced into marriage, and placed and maintained in exploitative situations that deprive them of their most fundamental and inalienable human rights," said a news statement released after the meeting.

Cambodian Women's Affairs Minister Ing Kantha Phavi said the joint declaration reaffirmed the spirit of solidarity, unity and strong commitment by governments of the six countries to continue strengthening the COMMIT Process in order to combat trafficking in persons in the region. "The declaration will become a firm foundation to move forward a new and more effective form of intervention in each country and in the region to combat trafficking in persons," she said.

At the meeting, Wang Jian, assistant minister of the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, reiterated China's strong commitment to fighting against all forms of human trafficking. "We will actively carry on practical law enforcement collaboration such as joint-action, case investigation, arrest and repatriation of criminal suspects, and rescue and relief for victims," he said.

He said China will share its experiences in fighting against human trafficking to help the region improve its law enforcement capacity.

Prior to the adoption of the joint declaration, senior officials from the six GMS countries met to review achievements of the COMMIT process over the last decade, and officially endorsed a regional action plan 2015-2018 that charts the course of cooperation on counter-trafficking over the next four years.

With millions of victims of human trafficking, the Greater Mekong Sub-region is home to some of the most severe forms of exploitation in the region, according to the news statement.

There are many victims of forced labor in the fishing and seafood industries, as well as in the manufacturing, agriculture and construction sectors, it said, adding that many other victims, mostly women and girls, are exploited in the sex industry, domestic servitude or forced to marry, while many children are forced into begging.

"All these men, women, boys and girls are deprived of their basic human dignities, including the chance to live a decent life without violence or earn a fair wage," the statement said.

The Phnom Penh meetings were presided over by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Kheng. About 500 participants attended, including ministers, senior officials from the GMS, ASEAN, international organizations, United Nations agencies, donors, civil society, youth groups, private sector, and other entities involved in the regional response to human trafficking.

S. Korea strongly regrets Abe's U.S. Congress speech
http://www.ecns.cn/2015/04-30/163796.shtml
Apr 30th 2015, 08:09

South Korea expressed strong regret Thursday over Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's speech to U.S. lawmakers as Abe avoided apologizing for and mentioning wartime atrocities.

"It is very regrettable that there was neither sincere apology nor (right) perception (of history) in Japanese Prime Minister Abe' s speech in U.S. Congress," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Abe's speech could have become a turning point for Japan to reconcile and cooperate with neighboring countries"in earnest" based on the right perception of history, but Abe failed to grasp this opportunity, the statement said.

Abe said in the first speech to a joint session of U.S. Congress as Japan's premier that he would"uphold"related statements made by his predecessors, but fell short of mentioning Japan's"colonial rule and aggression"and apologizing for the wartime brutalities.

Abe's speech suggested that he would not mention the terms, such as"heartfelt apology"and"colonial rule and aggression"in his upcoming statement in August to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the World War II.

Those terms were used in the statements issued by then Japanese Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama in 1995 and Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi in 2005 to mark the war end's 50th and 60th anniversaries.

The Foreign Ministry said that if Japan wants to contribute to world peace as mentioned in Abe's speech, it would be important for Japan to honestly acknowledge and repent its wartime past to gain trust and reconciliation from the international society. Abe' s words and actions were in a stark contrast to these calls, the ministry said.

South Korea urged Japan to squarely face its own history of colonial rule and aggression as well as the atrocious crimes against"comfort woman"victims to go down the path of reconciliation and cooperation with neighboring countries based on right perception of history.

At least 200,000 women, mostly from the Korean Peninsula, were forced into sexual slavery for Japanese military brothels before and during the World War II, and they are now referred to as" comfort women."

Without mentioning the comfort women victims, Abe just said in his speech that"Armed conflicts have always made women suffer the most,"seeking to justify the imperial Japan's recruitment of sex slaves.

A man was executed Thursday for an arson attack on a bus that injured 30 in the eastern province of Zhejiang.

Bao Laixu, 35, set fire to a bus that had more than 80 passengers onboard on July 5, 2014, in the provincial capital Hangzhou. Of the injured, 20 sustained serious burns. The youngest was seven years old.

Bao himself also sustained extensive burns and had to have his feet amputated.

The city's intermediate people's court deprived him of his political rights for life in the first-instance verdict on Feb. 12 and then sentenced him to death.

During the trial, Bao pleaded guilty to arson. He said that his crime was an expression of revenge on society and that he wanted to end his own life because he had suffered from tuberculosis for years.

An escaped suspect surrendered to police after the Guangdong provincial department public department issued an online wanted list of 20 runaway suspects on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Guangdong provincial department of public security on Wednesday night.

Li Jinlong, 44, arrived in a police substation in Huizhou in eastern part of Guangdong on Wednesday afternoon. A suspected triad member, Li admitted to having participated in running casinos in the Mafia-like criminal gang headed by Ye Jian, the statement said.

Ye's triad gang was busted in August 2012, and Ye had been pronounced guilty in a hearing in the second instance of trial in Guangdong High People's Court on Aug 1.

Li was suspect of operating underground casinos to earn big profits for Ye's gang in previous years. But Li escaped when Ye's gang was busted.

Ye's gang, which used to be active in the city of Huizhou, had once posed a serious threat to local social stability and people's lives and safety of properties.

Earlier this month, Zheng Dong, deputy director-general of the Guangdong provincial department of public security, had pledged to fight violent gangs at the grass-root levels in the southern province, which borders the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.

Zheng said more concrete and effective measures will be introduced to help crack down on local township and village gangs in the coming months.

In recent years, illegal gangs in the area have been using violence to monopolize markets and have been involved in the illegal trade and possession of weapons, threatening local social stability and security.

"Top priorities will be given to fight the sinister and evil forces in the 24 counties and districts in 17 cities in the province, including Baiyun and Yuexiu districts in Guangzhou, Bao'an and Longgang districts in Shenzhen special economic zone and Nanhai district in Foshan, in the following months," he said.

Lin Weixiong, director of the criminal investigation bureau under the Guangdong provincial department of public security, said that the gangs that have become active in some areas have posed a serious threat to grass-roots government and organizations in Guangdong.

Lin said more campaigns will be launched against the gangs in counties, townships and villages before the end of the year.

According to Lin, police across Guangdong have detained 7,906 suspects involved in criminal gangs in a bust that took place throughout the province.

No matter how times may change, we must respect the workers as the main force for national development, said Chinese President Xi Jinping, as Chinese leaders celebrated the role of workers on Tuesday.

With decades of growth greatly increasing the quality of worker's lives across China, the role of the labor force is often overshadowed by changing technology and wealth accrued from capital.

In this atmosphere, a total of 2,968 model workers were recognized at a ceremony attended by the nation's top leaders ahead of the May Day public holiday on May 1.

Xi promised to protect workers' interests, increase their wages and realize the Chinese Dream through the concrete results of their tireless endeavors.

WORKERS' UNSHAKABLE STATUS

In the early revolutionary period, members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) were mainly farmers and ordinary manual workers.

Recognizing a group of model citizens among these workers is a tradition that dates back to the founding of new China, when almost all industry started from scratch.

At that time, the workers' self-sacrifice, creativity and intelligence were held in the highest esteem by Party leaders and the central government. China's Constitution describes a country led by the working class, based on an alliance between workers and farmers.

The last time model workers were honored in this way was in 1979, when economic activities were returning to normal after the wreckage of the Cultural Revolution.

At Tuesday's ceremony, President Xi said denying or underplaying the vital role of the workers in a technological world was totally wrong. The President described the working class and "the broadest masses of the people", as the fundamental force behind economic growth and the basis of social stability.

Local governments often overemphasize capital and technology while ignoring the role workers. With China certain to face more labor shortages as the population ages, the time is ripe for governments to acknowledge the importance of the workers and the work they do.

A SOURCE OF STRENGTH

The timing of such a high profile ceremony celebrating the dedication and commitment of ordinary Chinese people could hardly be more revealing.

Can workers be replaced? China's ongoing stock market rally, sees many people indulging in stock speculation rather than work, but solid workers' efforts are the cornerstone on which virtual factors are built.

The traditional Chinese economy--basically a massive manufacturing sector built on cheap labor and plentiful natural resources--is gradually being replaced by an urban economy buoyed on services and innovation. In this time of national renewal, the importance of the work force has never been greater.

China's GDP grew 7 percent year on year in the first quarter, the lowest quarterly growth rate since 2009. The economy is weighed down by a slump in the property market and overcapacity in the very industries which were key to expansion in previous years.

Wages are on the rise in China, as they rightly should be, with moderate prosperity as the immediate goal. Though a blessing for those workers who toil in harsh conditions, it is another obstacle to attracting foreign investment.

China's reforms focus on less government interference in the market and less impact on the environment. If China wants to avoid the middle-income trap and breathe new life into old industries, it must highlight workers' creativity and build a knowledgable, technologically aware work force.

Li Wanjun, from China CNR Corporation Limited, one of the model workers honored at the ceremony, called on his fellow workers to put more effort into realizing the Chinese Dream.

China can not constantly look overseas for talented people. Only homegrown talent can transform "Made in China" into "Created in China".

Record pollution fine for Beijing McDonald's supplier

A Beijing company that supplies fries to McDonald's has been fined a record 3.9 million yuan (655,000 U.S. dollars) for water pollution, the city's environmental watchdog said on Wednesday.

The penalty imposed on Beijing Simplot Food Processing Co., Ltd -- a joint venture between U.S. agribusiness giant the J.R. Simplot Company, McDonald's and the Beijing Agricultural, Industrial and Commerce General Company -- is the largest fine ever meted out by Beijing for pollution.

In November, official inspectors found the chemical oxygen demand in waste water discharged by the company reached 563 mg per liter, exceeding the allowed limit of 500 mg per liter.

Law enforcement officials immediately blocked the company's sewage pipes and ordered it to transport its waste water to a processing plant.

The pollution occurred as Beijing Simplot was upgrading its sewage treatment facilities. The polluted water flowed into urban pipe networks, according to the Fengtai District Environmental Protection Bureau.

The bureau decided on the fine after a hearing in March.

Beijing Simplot, established in 1992 in Beijing's Fengtai District, primarily produces french fries and hash browns for McDonald's and other East Asian customers.

China has strengthened law enforcement for polluters in its environmental protection drive in recent years.

Output of China's building materials sector fell in the first quarter as the property market remained weak, the country's top economic planner indicated on Wednesday.

Cement output was down 3.4 percent year on year to 428 million tonnes, while flat glass production fell 6 percent, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said on its website. Prices of cement and flat glasses both dropped in March. Compared with a month earlier, the factory price of cement shed 1.3 percent, and that of flat glass moved down 0.4 percent.

The property sector, a major consumer of cement and flat glass, shows no significant improvement despite policy support.

Of 70 large and medium-sized cities surveyed, 50 saw new home prices dip on a monthly basis in March.

Three Chinese citizens have been confirmed killed in a city bordering the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) but authorities stopped short of verifying media reports identifying DPRK army deserters as suspects.

Police are investigating the bloodshed involving a 55-year-old man surnamed Zhao, his 26-year-old daughter and another man surnamed Sun, 67, the Helong city government in Northeast China's Jilin province said on Sina Weibo, a Twitter-like social networking site, on Wednesday.

The incident was reported to police early in the morning of last Saturday, echoing a report by Republic of Korea broadcaster KBS pinpointing the perpetrators as three soldiers fleeing the DPRK.

If the KBS report is confirmed, it would be the third deadly attack in the previously lesser-known town of Helong, which has led to public panic over the security situation.

A runaway soldier from the DPRK killed four Chinese citizens during a robbery in the village of Nanping, north of the Tumen River overlooking the DPRK's North Hamkyong province, on Dec 27, prompting Beijing to lodge a diplomatic protest to Pyongyang.

On Sept 3, a DPRK citizen crossed the border and killed a Chinese family of three in the same village.

(ECNS) -- A LaFerrari, worth 22-million yuan ($3.55 million), has crashed in Shanghai, setting a new record in China for the most expensive single-car accident, according to xinmin.cn.

The red-colored luxury car crashed amidst a rain burst on Tuesday night.

With its front damaged and a wheel dislocated, police on the scene stated that no other vehicle was involved in the accident while the driver, who suffered no significant injury, was not driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The car was towed away around midnight.

LaFerrari is available in limited edition with only 499 in use globally.

Mergers and acquisitions involving Chinese companies have drawn a lot of attention in the first third of the year, and the outlook remains bright.

But other emerging markets also are offering attractive investment opportunities, according to a managing director with an international investment bank.

Euan Rellie, a senior managing director with BDA Partners, an Asia-focused investment banking firm, said the global landscape for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) is changing "quite dramatically".

"China and India have been on the front page a lot," Rellie said. "We keep ourselves very busy in China. But having said that, we're seeing some dramatic changes. People don't want to put all of their eggs in the China basket, and a lot of people are saying they're worried about China risk. I wouldn't discard that risk at all.

"I think there's a very significant chance of a dramatic real estate correction in China," Rellie said. "In terms of the overall level of M&A activity, the Asian markets still represent just a tiny portion of the addressable market. But China is a pretty good place to do business."

The Asia Pacific region, excluding Japan, was responsible for $656.8 billion in deals last year, with China accounting for more than 45 percent ($307.4 billion) of deal flow, according to Dealogic, an investment research firm.

As of April 21, China's M&A volume in the technology sector had nearly doubled year-over-year to $26.4 billion (up from $13.7 billion in 2014).

Rellie spoke at the 2015 M&A Advisor Symposium on Tuesday at the New York Athletic Club along with other panelists in a session titled Global Growth Markets.

Hany A Fam, president of MasterCard Enterprise Partnerships, said that his firm is looking at environments where there's "inherent inefficiency".

"We identify the leading enablers and look at their core competencies, and we bring together odd bedfellows ― companies you wouldn't necessarily think about putting together," Fam said. "Places like China already have a burning platform for M&A deals, but they need to understand their own challenges."

Global M&A transactions surpassed $3.6 trillion last year, the highest total since 2007, according to Dealogic.

Overall M&A activity has increased 26 percent year-over-year, with healthcare, real estate, and the telecom and technology industries among the most popular sectors.

Deals in the US totaled $1.61 trillion, an increase of 42 percent from 2013 and the highest full-year volume on record, data from Dealogic showed.

Tom Speechley, a partner with the Abraaj Group, a New York-based private equity investment firm, said: "The US is always going to be the most important economy. It's the most advanced and it will remain that. But people should recognize that there's a lot going on in the rest of the world that is extremely interesting and potentially very exciting from the investment perspective.

"If you can understand the nuances of a region, you can make great investments there," Speechley said.

Henny Sender, chief international finance correspondent for the Financial Times, said: "China is now shifting from an export model of development to domestic demand growth, and it's not going to be easy. We're moving to a more sophisticated model now, and China is using the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank as part of the solution. That has huge implications for investors."

The International Monetary Fund's April 2015 World Economic Outlook report estimates that Chinese economic growth will slow to 6.8 percent in 2015, as China makes the transition to a "slower but more sustainable growth path".

Rellie said that nearly half of his firm of about 80 employees is stationed in China.

"Today we're seeing lots of opportunity in Asia," Rellie said. "You see Japanese companies investing outside Japan, and others, but we're certainly not giving up on China. There's still a heck of a lot of momentum in the Chinese economy and a lot of M&A activity to take place in China over the next five to 10 years.

"For us, it's driven more by cost of capital," he said. "Local governments in the US are thrilled to have Chinese companies invest and build factories, and there's abundant cheap capital in Asia."

CSRC warns investors on stock market risks

Sharp rise seen in new accounts amid sustained bull run

China's stock market regulator on Tuesday warned investors that there are still risks in the market, despite the recent sustained bull run.

The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) published a statement on its website on Tuesday saying that smaller investors who are new to trading on the stock market should pay close attention to potential risks, rather than just blindly following the trend.

China's A-share stock market has risen strongly in recent months, with the Shanghai Composite Index having surged by over 39 percent so far this year to seven-year highs, and this has encouraged a large number of people to open new accounts and start investing for the first time.

The number of new stock accounts reached 7.95 million in the first quarter, 433 percent more than in the same period of 2014, said the statement, citing data from the China Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation, the country's clearing services for all transactions in the A-share market.

"The market regulator's warning is due to the recent over-excitement among investors, which has led to higher risks," Yang Zhicheng, director of Shanghai Junsheng Asset Management Co, told the Global Times on Tuesday.

"The ongoing comprehensive reforms provide a better stock market environment for investors," Yang noted, adding "Government policies do not necessarily favor every industry, and there is too much margin trading in the stock market, which has made valuations unreasonably high."

"The current stock prices are obviously too high, and the CSRC needs to give warnings so as to avoid a market collapse," Yu Haihua, an investment advisor at Great Wall Securities Co.

Yang suggested that investors could give their money to professional institutions to manage their investments.

Daily turnover on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges has frequently exceeded 1 trillion yuan ($161.12 billion) since March.

"The trading volume has reached a level that is too high, though it is hard to say what kind of trading volume would be appropriate," Yang said.

Zhang Tianyi, wearing a black shirt bearing the words"Ba Man", which in Central China's Hunan dialect means "stubborn and hardworking", in his restaurant in the Beijing CBD, on April 14, 2015. (Photo/Song Wei)

"You can disagree with them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them. That's the philosophy of my life", said 25-year-old Zhang Tianyi, CEO of restaurant chain Fu Niu Tang (F.N.T), as the sound of a famous Apple advertisement video "Here's to the crazy ones" drew to a close on his phone.

As the Apple video advocates, Zhang is a young businessman who "thinks different".

Zhang, a post-90s postgraduate of Peking University, settled in a high-rise office building in Beijing's CBD by becoming a restaurant owner rather than a white-collar worker like most of his classmates.

He opened the first F.N.T restaurant specializing in rice noodles from his home province of Hunan in April last year, two months before graduation. Now, he has his fourth restaurant newly opened in the capital.

"Stepping into society from school means you are forced to change by a set of strong rules. I regard startups as a way against the rules. I hope I can innovate," he said, sitting in the corner of his small but well-organized restaurant.

With the Internet applied to the catering industry, he found an innovative way of developing business by drawing benefits from numerous and active online fans.

"My thinking is to build a platform to connect people," Zhang said with his upper body leaning forward and an intense look into your reporter's eyes.

Among a generation growing up in the Internet era, he realized his goal by mobilizing the web. Before starting business, Zhang and his partners worked hard to promote their products and brand on their personal accounts of the country's most popular social media such as instant messaging platform QQ, Sina Weibo, China's version of Twitter and messaging app WeChat.

In the third month after his restaurant opened the number of followers on the three social media outlets has reached nearly 10,000.

The continuous growth of fans and curious people visiting F.N.T restaurant exceeded the capacity of the 30-square-meter space, secluded at the end of a lone aisle in the underground of an office building.

"Nearly half of F.N.T's visitors come through the Internet," said Zhang. By comparison, most traditional restaurants rely heavily on a superior location to bring natural customer flow.

"The starting point of my business is selling rice noodles, and the end is brand. Customers make a connection with us when they buy the first bowl of rice noodles," Zhang said with his index finger tapping the edge of the table to emphasize his point.

In the process of running F.N.T, Zhang has organized an association "Ba Man Club", membership of which comes from his staff and customers, who are mainly Hunan locals born after 1985 and work in Beijing. "Ba Man" is Hunan dialect meaning "stubborn" and "hardworking".

Being of a similar age, with a home province in common and social communication makes the association strong and active enough to hold activities most weekends, even if it has expanded to become a community of nearly 100,000 today, 10 times the number of his followers a year ago.

"That is what the Internet era offers - connect your customer with your brand," he said as he changed position again, riding the chair and two hands holding another in a dominating manner, just as he dominates F.N.T, "the trump card of F.N.T is this 100,000-member association."

F.N.T benefits from "Ba Man Club".

Half his staff are from "Ba Man Club", so are the volunteers who run F.N.T's WeChat account and the voluntary F.N.T brand designer, according to Zhang.

In March, when he raised money on social media to fund his attendance at a business training class, he received more than 516,000 yuan ($83,179) from 846 payments in 38 hours, most of which came from fans.

Zhang gives F.N.T a unique label - a non-governmental organization driven by shared values and ideals.

"Anyone who acknowledges my values will live in my system and push it forward. It is simply that in my system, selling rice noodles gains. Making profit is a side product," Zhang said with a smile.
