Hengqin New Area is accelerating the development of three-dimensional (3D) codes and plans to apply a traceability system that is the basis of the system, to food security work. The 3D code will enable consumers to tell counterfeit commodities more easily when shopping.
The code consists of three groups of data: the first group is about the production site, the second is about the information of the commodity at different phases of the production process, and the third is a code that encrypts the former two groups of data. Therefore, each commodity has a unique code.
That is the most fundamental distinction between 2D code and 3D code. The former is shared by commodities, which is a loophole utilized by lawbreakers to counterfeit or forge famous food brands.
In contrast, 3D code enables food manufacturers to upload data about the information of the commodity and certification process to cloud computing centers. Consumers can access to the information for verification by scanning the 3D code with digital devices. In addition, a 3D code has a larger data capacity, better confidentiality and can adapt to wide-area Internet, Internet of things as well as the technology of new generation.
