China expresses condolences to loss of life in Sri Lankan floods, landslides

The Chinese government on Thursday expressed its condolences over the loss of life following devastating floods and landslides in Sri Lanka.
In a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Yi Xianliang said that China will do its utmost to assist Sri Lanka's relief work.
"On behalf of the government and people of the People's Republic of China, I wish to extend my deepest condolence to the government and people of Sri Lanka on the tragic loss of life and property following the heavy rains that led to severe flooding and landslides around the island. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sri Lankan people as the search and rescue effort continues,"the ambassador said.
"At this time of grief, the government and the people of the People's Republic of China reiterate their solidarity, friendship and support for the government and the people of Sri Lanka, and will do its utmost for Sri Lanka's relief work. We also believe under the leadership of your Excellency, the Sri Lankan people will surely conquer the disaster."
Over 41 people have been reported dead and 150 are missing following three days of heavy rain which resulted in floods and multiple landslides this week.
