A construction company accused of allowing waste water overflow into a small river in the Pudong New Area, killing fish and choking the water, is under investigation by the district's environment watchdog, officials said on Friday.


The company, which was not identified, let waste water containing cement and other construction wastes escape into the river in the Huayuangang area near the S2 Highway in Pudong, the district government said. The waste water should have been contained in a pond of the company. Residents said the river, which was clear and had lots of fish, had turned black and stopped flowing. Wastes floated on the river, as seen in photos posted by residents.
