(ECNS) -- By using a fingerprint membrane, a white-collar worker in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, recruited his father to falsely record attendance at his workplace.
The worker, employed at a property insurance company in Ningbo, served as a resident manager in an auto dealership in the city, so he normally didn't work at the company's home office.
"To save my daily commute time and improve my work efficiency, I asked my colleagues to help me record my attendance," he said.
"Since fingerprint scanning machines were introduced by the company for its attendance system, I entrusted others to register attendance with a membrane of my fingerprint."
His father also helped him register attendance at the company's home office several times.
After his attendance fraud was exposed, the worker was dismissed by the company for absenteeism.
He then appealed to a local court by suing the firm for unfair dismissal.
"I got permission from the company's human resources department to do so," he said. "Although I didn't record my attendance in person, I went to work on time in the 4S shop during that period."
However, since there is no evidence to prove what the worker said is true, the court rejected the appeal.
A recent investigation found that kits used to make fingerprint membranes have emerged as hot items online.
One such kit that consists of an ink blotter-like pad for making an impression, plus some gel for taking a fine mold, costs only 38 yuan ($6.20), including shipping.
"Employees' use of fake fingerprint to cheat attendance is a violation of China's labor laws," said Hu Liming, a lawyer at Su Hao Law Firm in Ningbo.
Companies involved in such cases are entitled to impose punishments on violators in accordance with regulations, the lawyer added.
