Evernote launches marketplace in China to tap growing demand

Online note-taking services provider Evernote has officially launched its physical merchandise marketplace called "Evernote Market" in China to draw users as the country already became its second largest market outside the US.


Evernote Market now sells 27 items ranging from desktop storage containers, wireless scanners to home furniture items made by designers and accessory vendors from US, Japan and other countries.


Evernote chief executive officer Phil Libin said in an interview with Shanghai Daily that the company currently has 11 million users in China and it is expected to become its largest market in the near future.


The marketplace now accepts payment through Alipay and China UnionPay's online payment service and the merchandise will be shipped from its local warehouse.


Libin said during the interview in Shanghai that the company sees huge opportunity of its business version in China with the increasing of knowledge workers and start-up firms that require internal data sharing and co-working tools.


Globally, revenues from the Evernote Market make up about 15 to 20 percent of its income after its first launched in the US last September and Libin expects revenue from its premium users, business version and the sales of physical products to each make up one third of its income in the future.


The executive team is also seeking collaboration with local designers and will offer their products to global Evernote users.
