Multi-Olympic swimming champion Ye Shiwen has been admitted into Tsinghua University as her sport excellence ensured her entrance without examination.

The 18-year-old completed her registration on Wednesday as a junior student in law major at the most prestigious Chinese university which enrolled a total of 3,560 students for 2014.

Ye told reporters that she just realized a dream that so many Chinese high school students toil for and only a lucky few make true.

"I have been dreaming to study in Tsinghua since I was little," said the double Olympic champion.

"My coach suggested I take up law major and I am interested in it too," she said.

However, it is hard for Ye to spend as much time studying as her schoolmates since she has to prepare for the upcoming Asian Games.

"I would like to tour the campus. Unfortunately, I have training sessions this afternoon," said Ye, who became the youngest swimming world champion since 1978 after winning the 200m individual medley title in 2011.

She then took the 400m IM gold in a world record time and the 200m IM title with an Olympic record in London in 2012.
