China is willing to work with France to stamp out terrorism, "the cancer of society", Foreign Minister Wang Yi told French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.

According to China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang sent a telegram to Fabius on Saturday, in which he expressed strong condemnation of "the terrorists' despicable behavior", offered sincere mourning and compassion to people killed or wounded in the attacks, as well as heartfelt condolences to their families.

He reiterated that China opposes all forms of terrorism.

He said that as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a comprehensive strategic partner of France, China is willing to strengthen collaboration with France to combat terrorism.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei also released a statement saying China is shocked and condemns vehemently the terrorist attacks that caused mass casualties in Paris.

"China mourns those who were killed in the attacks, and offers condolences to families who lost members to the attacks and to those wounded."

Hong affirmed China's support for France in maintaining its national security and combating terrorism, which, he said, is a challenge for mankind.
