China & Russia on transcontinental trade initiatives

Premier Li Keqiang met with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev in Beijing on Thursday. Among other things, the two leaders agreed to work together on the alignment between China's Silk Road Economic Belt construction and the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union.
It's been a fruitful year for China-Russia relations.
Hailing achievements in bilateral cooperation in 2015, Premier Li said that China is committed to pushing its comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination with Russia to a new high.
Russian Prime Minister Medvedev said his country is willing to enhance communications and coordination with China on international affairs and strengthen their cooperation under the frameworks of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
China and Russia are both facing a key period of economic mode transformation and structural adjustment. Li and Medvedev agreed to work together on the alignment between China's Silk Road Economic Belt construction and the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union.
In addition to Li and Medvedev meeting, the two countries also signed a series of agreements in such areas as infrastructure, energy, finance, investment, and information networks. The deputy CEO of the major Russian industrial company Rostec -- Dmitriy Shugaev -- witnessed the signings. He said China and Russia are embracing new opportunities for strategic cooperation.
"The negotiations on the trade initiatives will definitely have a positive impact on Russia-China trade relations. The two countries are developing a new trade cooperation pattern, we are joining hands together in manufacturing high-tech equipments," Dmitriy Shugaev, deputy CEO of International Affairs of Rostec, said.
The Belt and Road Initiative will help China and Russia upgrade their cross-border economic cooperation in trade and investment as both nations experience slower growth.
The initiative's proposed coverage will affect nearly 3 billion people and represent one of the world's largest international markets. Medvedev attended the ongoing World Internet Conference in Wuzhen and delivered a keynote speech before meeting with Li.
Analysts believe that the conference will stimulate collaboration between different countries, particularly China ane Russia, in the fast-growing Internet economic sector.
