A drone flying from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) returned to the north after South Korea's military fired tens of warning shots in the western border area, local media reported on Wednesday citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The JCS reportedly said the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from the DPRK was detected at around 2:10 p.m. local time (0510 GMT) near South Korea's Dorasan observation post (OP) in the western land border.
As the unidentified drone flew near to the military demarcation line (MDL), South Korea's military issued warning broadcasting and fired some 20 rounds of warning shots with machine gun.
Right after the warning shots, the drone returned back to the north.
Tensions rose in the inter-Korean border as the South Korean forces resumed blaring anti-DPRK messages from loudspeakers along the border last Friday in retaliation for Pyongyang's claim of its first hydrogen bomb test last week.
In response, the DPRK troops resumed propaganda broadcasts in border regions. Pyongyang floated thousands of anti-South Korea leaflets, which were discovered Wednesday in Seoul and some areas of Gyeonggi province.
