Mainland attributes HK trade data discrepancy to math

A massive discrepancy between the amount of goods the Chinese mainland claims to have exported to Hong Hong and the amount Hong Kong says it received was down to difference in how the two sides worked out the figures, an official said on Wednesday.
According to the General Administration of Customs, the value of mainland exports to Hong Kong in December totalled 46 billion U.S. dollars, almost double the figure provided by Hong Kong.
Products assembled in the mainland but originating elsewhere and transshipment goods shipped to Hong Kong from the mainland were not included in the data provided by the Hong Kong authorities, Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Shen Danyang said at a press conference.
Interest rate vibration and carryover effect also contributed to the discrepancy, Shen said.
