UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday expressed his deep concern over the recent nuclear test and satellite launch by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in his meeting with South Korea's foreign minister.
Ban and Yun Byung-se exchanged views on the DPRK's Jan. 6 nuclear test and the Feb. 7 launch using ballistic missile technology, according to Ban's spokesperson.
Ban said the acts violated UN Security Council resolutions, expressing his deep concern about their negative impact on "regional stability and wider disarmament and non-proliferation objectives," the spokesperson added.
Ban thanked Yun for South Korea's generous support for UN humanitarian work, especially that related to the Syrian crisis.
After the DPRK on Sunday launched a long-range rocket, carrying an Earth observation satellite, the UN Security Council held an emergency session and vowed to "adopt expeditiously a new Security Council resolution."
The DPRK is already under sanctions for violating previous UN resolutions.
