Home favorite Ding Junhui crashed out on the first day of the Chinese Billiard World Championship with two straight losses on Thursday.
In his debut at the Chinese Billiard World Championship, Ding enjoyed cheers and applause from home fans and his victory of the first frame.
However, Michael Hill, who already played four preliminaries, soon established an 8-1 lead and won by 9-3.
The Losers Bracket second round pit Ding against world No. 3 Neil Robertson. Ding cut the deficit down from 1-5 to 6-7 before the Australian won the following two frames to win 9-6.
"The balls are a little heavier than those in snooker, they may not move to exactly the place I expected," said Ding, "still, the Chinese billiard is a unique game that everyone should have a try."
Another rookie of the World Championship, world No. 6 Judd Trump, was also knocked out on Thursday after bowing to Thorsten Bernhard Hohmann 9-5 and Lee Vann Barrios Corteza 9-3.
"It is great fun today," said the British. "I quite like the game, I may play better if the game could be quicker."
