(ECNS) -- Beijing police denied that there is an internationally used hand gesture for seeking police help, Beijing Morning News reported.
The gesture is somewhat like an OK gesture, with a circle formed by the thumb and ring finger while the three other fingers keep straight.
Some said the gesture also looks like China's alarm call "110" and American equivalent "911".
The image of the gesture with the words "Call the police when u see this" went viral on China's Twitter-like microblog Sina Weibo.
But Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau said it didn't get any notice to publicize or promote such a gesture and urged people not to use unpopular gestures to seek help as they might not be effective.
