China on Thursday called for support from the UN Security Council on a draft resolution expressing concern over the possible use of chemical weapons by terrorist groups in Syria.
"China resolutely opposes the use of chemical weapons by anyone under any circumstances for any reasons," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lu Kang said at a briefing, noting that China's position on this issue is consistent and clear.
The draft resolution, presented by China and Russia, expressed the concern about the intention of terrorist groups in Syria to use chemical weapons, and asked countries, especially those neighboring Syria, to report any information, Lu said.
"China called on all parties to jointly oppose and punish any parties that use chemical weapons," the spokesperson added.
