Grandfather arrested for stabbing grandson to death

Police have arrested a grandfather Thursday afternoon for stabbing his 6-year-old grandson to death with a kitchen knife in Pudong New Area, local media reported Thursday.


Police caught the suspect, surnamed Shi, on Shangnan Road at 3 pm, according to a report on the news website xinmin.cn. He confessed to killing his grandson around 2:30 pm Wednesday over trivial household issues.


The boy's parents reported the murder to police at 6:39 pm Wednesday after they arrived home from work and found his body, the report said. He had suffered major stab wounds.


The boy's grandfather became a suspect almost immediately.


After examining the residential compound's security video footage, police found that the grandfather had left the compound around 3 pm and never returned, the report said.


Neighbors said that he moved in with the family several months ago to look after the boy while the parents were at work, according to the report.
