(ECNS) -- In an effort to protect her crops from wild boars, a farmer in Wuhan, Hubei province, plays "The Coolest Ethnic Trend," a popular Chinese rock song, late at night to ward off the animals, Chutian Metro Daily reported.

Zhang Xiaoli, who runs a 300-mu (20 hectares) orchard in the city's Jiangxia district, has been bothered by the damage caused by wild boars in her orchard.

"Wild boars smashed more than 1,000 kg of watermelons in my orchard, and uprooted sweet potatoes and purple yams," Zhang said.

"In the daytime when we work in the orchard, I can drive the wild boars away, but I can't maintain a 24-hour watch on these animals.

"I found netizens who suggested playing music to drive wild boars away, so I decided to try playing rock songs," she said.

Zhang downloaded several rock songs, including "The Coolest Ethnic Trend", and started playing them through loudspeakers every night.

"It really works," Zhang said. "Playing rock songs can help keep those animals away at night."

"But I didn't notice whether 'The Coolest Ethnic Trend' is more effective than other rock songs in warding off boars," Zhang added.

The number of wild boars in the suburbs of Wuhan has been on the increase in recent years, according to the municipal forestry department.

Authorities in Wuhan will come up with measures to cope with the potential risk caused by the overpopulation of boars.
