Found next door to the fantastic chophouse that goes under the same 1515 WEST bracket, the large single-room main bar on the fourth floor of the Jingan Shangri-La hotel is a must-visit spot whether you're a hotel guest or not.
Plush leather interiors, old school deconstructed cameras, barmen decked out in ties and flat caps and a menu based on a spine of cocktails hailing back to the '20s era and further, all create a US Prohibition era vibe, while head barman Dario Gentile's Old Fashions are easily among the best in the city.
'This bar looks old-school, from the beginning of 1900,' says Gentile, who recently travelled to Kentucky to select a whiskey to sell exclusively at the bar named the 1515 West Signature. 'The chesterfield sofas, the wood furniture, it's like the old times in terms of atmosphere. And this style is not just popping up in Shanghai, it's very much a global trend.'
