(ECNS) -- An old site of a former military tribunal that witnessed the trial of 36 Japanese war criminals in 1956 is being restored in Shenyang, Liaoning province, according to Xinhuanet.com on Thursday.
Historical scenes from the trial will be shown to the public in May, it said.
Located on Heilongjiang Street, Huanggu district, the military court held the trial of 36 Japanese class B war criminals in 1956.
Shenyang government once put a sign outside the court, which read, "For the first time since the First Opium War in 1840, Chinese people can bring foreign invaders to trial without interference."
The site will be opened to the public after the restoration project is finished. An exhibition featuring scenes from the trial is planned.
Wax statues will be used to represent figures from the trial, including war criminals.
A 30-minute video of the trial will also be shown at the exhibit.
