China-Russia WWII photo exhibition opens in Russia

To mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, a photo exhibition depicting the combined war effort of China and Russia against fascist forces has opened in the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia in Moscow.


The treasured photos—140 in total—show the friendships forged between two peoples during the Second World War.


Valery Adapters, himself a veteran of the war, said his father was among Russian troops fighting the Japanese invasion in China.


"What our elder generation did passed down the friendship between Russia and China to us," he said.


The exhibition, which opened on Monday and runs to July 10, has attracted large numbers of students, some of whom say they have gained a new understanding of history.


"We can get access to history through the exhibition and learn how the Chinese and Russian people fought together against German and Japanese fascism," said a student.


The photo exhibition is part of a new series of cultural events, titled 'Experience China in Russia', that aims to promote understanding of China among Russian people.


Meanwhile, the two countries have made efforts to strengthen cooperation and mutual tourism.


On Monday, the opening ceremony for 'Bilateral Tourism Cooperation and Exchanges' was held in Xiangtan City, in central China's Hunan province. Officials from China's National Tourism Administration and Russia's Federal Agency for Tourism attended the ceremony.


The two countries have signed an agreement to develop so-called "red-tourism" routes, focusing on a shared communist heritage. This will entail planning of destinations and routes and cooperation on marketing.
