Media organizations in China and Russia should enhance cooperation so as to boost bilateral relations, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has said.

During his visit to Russia, Liu Qibao, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, urged media organizations of the two countries to beef up exchanges and cooperation on the basis of mutual trust, and contribute to the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.

In a keynote speech at the China-Russia Media Forum, he called on Chinese and Russian media organizations to jointly facilitate the integration of China's Silk Road Economic Belt initiative with the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union framework.

Liu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, added that the media on both sides should work together to safeguard the outcome of the victory of World War II and international justice, promote cultural exchanges and friendship, and help the world better understand the two countries and their relations.

Liu was visiting St. Petersburg with a CPC delegation from Thursday to Saturday.

During his stay here, Liu also met with Russian sinologists to learn the current situation of Chinese studies and their opinions and suggestions.

The CPC official expressed the hope that experts could conduct in-depth studies about the Chinese culture, and pay consistent attention to the Chinese Dream and introduce it to more people, in order to make new contributions to China-Russia cultural exchanges and the friendship of the two peoples.

During his visit, Liu also attended the launching ceremony of a series of "Experience China" cultural activities and launched the China Pavilion at the St. Petersburg State University of Economics, and visited a photo exhibition at the university on China-Russia joint fights against the fascists during the World War II.

He also met with Alexi Gromov, first deputy head of the Presidential Administration of Russia, and St. Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko, and visited the local bureau of the Tass news agency.
