The Greek government on Thursday extended deep condolences to China over the deadly explosions in its northern port city of Tianjin. [Special coverage]

"The grief at the tragic loss of so many human lives in yesterday's deadly explosions in the port city of Tianjin, China, is profound," said a statement from the Greek foreign ministry.

"We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and friendly people of China, as well as our wishes for a speedy recovery to the hundreds of injured," the statement added.

At least 50 people were killed, including 12 fire fighters, and at least 521 wounded, more than 70 of them seriously, after two huge explosions hit a warehouse which stored dangerous and chemical goods in Tianjin, according to official figures.
