(ECNS) China's airlines, railways and highways have launched a "mailing kids" service to send children to their destinations without adults during the Spring Festival travel rush (also called Chunyun), according to China National Radio.

Qingdao Coach Station on Wednesday morning mailed its first child, 9-year-old Jinjin, to Rizhao, in southeast Shandong province.

The station said Jinjin arrived in Rizhao safely, and the trip cost just half the price of an adult ticket.

According to the station, a sender must fill out an application form to use the service, writing telephone and ID numbers of the sender and receiver. On the bus, the "mailed" kid is arranged to sit next to a steward to make sure he or she is taken care of.

As the kid arrives at the destination, the receiver needs to provide his ID number and a six-digit code set by the sender to confirm his identity, then he can pick up the child.
