Finance Bureau of Guangzhou has unveiled a new policy on June 4, 2015 to regulate government officials' expenses on business traveling.
The new business traveling regulations are targeted at government officials from both municipal party and government offices and institutions.
The traveling expenses cover intra-city transportation, accommodation, and food subsidies. Yet international business traveling expenses are not included in the new policy.
Specifically, government officials with the title of department director are no longer allowed to book hotel suites. The food subsidies have raised to 100 yuan (around 16 U.S. dollar) per day for each person. Inter-city transportation fees for each government official are 80 yuan (around 13 U.S. dollar) per day.
The new policy also stipulates that only government officials rank above deputy provincial level are qualified to take first-class flight, while officials like deputy mayor and department directors can only book business class tickets. Section-level cadres and cadres below this level are not allowed to take flight to travel except in emergency.
According to the new traveling policy, government officials are not allowed to feast, travel or receive gifts during their business trips.
