Search operations are continuing to locate six missing passengers following a collision between two boats in waters off Hong Kong on Thursday. Foggy weather is causing difficulties in the operation.

Nine more rescue boats have been dispatched to the scene. The search range has also been widened even as rescue helicopters have been placed on standby.

The two vessels collided off Stanley, located on the south-east of Hong Kong Island. One of them sank in the collision. Five people were pulled from the water and two were taken to hospital for treatment.

The cause of the accident and the type of vessels involved isn't yet clear. An investigation is already underway. In October last year, a ferry collision claimed 39 lives. Last week, the captains of the boats involved were each charged with 39 counts of manslaughter. They face life in prison if convicted.
