New Zealand's dairy scandal is continuing to worsen, after more products were banned from entering China due to elevated levels of nitrates. The incident has raised further concerns over quality and testing from the world's largest dairy exporter.

Imports of Lactoferrin powder, a multifunctional protein produced by New Zealand's second largest dairy company Westland Milk, have been temporarily banned. New Zealand's agricultural regulator said on Monday it has revoked export certificates for four consignments of the concerned products.

New Zealand.s Ministry of Primary Industries said two of the four consignments had been shipped to China but had not reached consumers. China's product quality watchdog has asked the New Zealand government to conduct thorough inspections of its management systems. This is the second quality issue for New Zealand.s dairy products within one month.

Earlier this month, milk products from New Zealand's biggest dairy exporter Fonterra was found to be contaminated with botulism-causing bacteria.
