Shanghai's traffic authority yesterday denied allegations that some agents had used hundreds of computers to make simultaneous bids to win over 1,000 local car plates during auction last month.
Shanghai Transport Commission's vehicle quota management office investigated the rumors along with the public security bureau and telecommunication management authority. They examined the backstage data of the Shanghai International Commodity Auction Co, which operates the monthly auction, and found the allegations to be baseless.
The allegations were posted on WeChat after the auction on April 18. It was alleged that three bidding agents had used over 100 computers to bid for the license plates. Pictures were posted online of agents showing off some of the 985 car plates they claimed to have won.
