Shanghai Xintiandi has been re-vamping itself lately with cool concepts and new venues. Green & Safe The Barn is one of the recent additions that doesn't fail to impress.
The Green & Safe on Dongping Road has operated successfully for years as a casual restaurants for healthy and tasty dishes and an organic market.
The Barn is bigger and cooler amid some of the other newcomers in the North Block of Xintiandi.
The three levels of the restaurant feature a spacious dining room that is a haven for some good farm-to-table eating and drinking. The restaurant's menu is seasonal, and the dishes are balanced with farm-fresh ingredients.
The salads counter is my personal fa-vorite. It offers some of the best salads in town and has a great variety: most of them have a meat or fish ingredi-ent that makes each salad special and tasty rather than just bland mix of vegetables.
They also divide their salads into seasonal picks and all time classics.
The choice of three salads makes a great combo (88 yuan) for a decent and healthy meal. Their current seasonal picks are Tofu seaweed salad in sesame sauce, organic green salad with figs and seasonal figs with couscous salad.
Ialso liked the Chicken Waldorf salad loaded with apples, grapes, celery and walnuts served with light mayonnaise and yogurt dressing. The Roasted potato salad with bacon is also delicious. Perfectly roasted, the potatoes tasted even better mixed with the crispy bacon.
It takes several visits to sample different dishes at The Barn, from the simple fare like sandwich and ham-burgers, pasta and hand-made pizza, to the culinary delights including the oysters, steaks over a wood fire (Aus-tralian angus and Australian Wagyu).
The restaurant highlights their new dishes which are prepared by award-winning chefs from Asia's Top 50 Restaurant, Bo lan. The must tries include Bolan's Beef shank soup with Thai herbs, Bolan's special red curry chicken with rice, and Bolan's special roast chicken with Thai herbs.
Green & Safe The Barn is an all-day dining and drinking destination. If you come before 7pm on weekdays, there is 30-percent off on all the Bunker drinks by Flask. Flask, the creator of innova-tive craft cocktails, collaborates with Green & Safe to bring out The Bunker. They are able to use high quality, organic and seasonal ingredients to develop "fresh" and flavorful cocktails. The interesting creations include the Carrot Cake Conquest as the cocktail version of the Green & Safe popular cake. Sour Force is created with two types of vinegars providing different level of sourness, along with the aroma of chrysanthemum to find the perfect balance.
