Beijing denies plan to collect congestion fees in 2017

(ECNS) -- Beijing transport authorities denied that they would collect congestion fees within the Second Ring Roads starting in 2017, the Beijing Morning Post reports.
According to a rumor widely circulated on the Internet, a new management rule set to take effect in 2017 stipulated that congestion fees would be levied on motor vehicles at different hours within the Second Ring Road.
It's also speculated that Beijing's motor vehicle license plates would be categorized into two groups -- beginning with "Jing" £¨Beijing) and "Shou" (Capital) respectively. Those beginning with "Shou" would be subject to an odd-even ban requiring alternate driving days for vehicles with even- and odd-numbered license plates on the city's roads.
However, the municipal transport authorities said no official notice had been received. Citizens are advised to pay attention to official news release rather than rumors.
