China's top legislature has adopted a revised law on wild animal protection.
The revision officially outlaws the production and purchase of food or food-products made from state-protected wild animals.
It also bans the illegal purchase of state-protected wild animals and any derived products for food.
Offenders could face jail time.
In amending the law, the National People's Congress says the use of wild animals and any products from them should rely mainly on captive-bred animals.
The new laws will take effect at the start of next year.
