The 5th Shanghai International Ballet Competition, which has been suspended since 2007, will kick off at Shanghai Grand Theater on August 3.
About 100 dancers from home and abroad have signed up for the competition, 78 of whom have been selected for the quarter-final in Shanghai.
The 41 foreign participants, accounting for 53 percent of the total, are from 15 countries, including the US, Russia, Germany, Cuba, and South Africa.
About 20 prizes will be awarded, ranging from US$1,000 to US$30,000.
Ivan Liska, president of the Bavarian State Ballet in Munich, will be the jury chairman, and the other judges will be Manuel Legris of the Vienna State Ballet, Andris Liepa of the Moscow Grand Theater, Isabel Guerin of the Paris Opera House, Hae Shik Kim of the Korean National University of Arts, and Xin Lili of the Shanghai Ballet.
A series of educational programs will be held during the competition, including a ballet summer camp.
