An exhibition marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Long March opened to the public at the National Museum of China in Beijing on Thursday. More than 300 pieces of cultural relics and artworks are on display, revealing the 12,500-km military expedition of the Red Army, led by the Communist Party of China (CPC), to combat the Kuomintang regime in the civil war. From 1934 to 1936, an 80,000-strong Red Army force took part in the epic trek, which laid an important foundation for the Communist victory in the war. They finally arrived in Yan'an in West China's Shaanxi province, where the new headquarters of CPC was later established. Over three quarters of the soldiers died or were reported missing in the two-year span.
